Andrew Watson

Andrew D. Watson, recipient of the 2015 Art Education Technology Outstanding Teacher Award from the National Art Education Association, is fine arts instructional specialist for Alexandria City Public Schools.

Andrew D. Watson, the recipient of the 2015 Art Education Technology Outstanding Teacher Award from the National Art Education Association, earned his Master of Arts in Art Education in 2014. Soon thereafter, Andrew became Fine Arts Instructional Specialist for Alexandria City Public Schools. Prior to that, Andrew taught Photography, Digital Arts & Design, Animation, and Game Design in the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) district in Virginia. An active exhibiting artist, Watson's work has been shown in galleries throughout the mid-Atlantic and in the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art.

As a member of the FCPS STEAM Project, Andrew developed curriculum and professional development for teachers in how to integrate science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. Andrew has given multiple presentations at both Virginia Art Education Association Conferences and National Art Education Association Conventions, and also at the national convention of the Americans for the Arts. Andrew's peer-reviewed articles on STEAM Education and Design Thinking appear in Art Education Journal, Journal for Quality and Participation, and in the American Society for Quality's 2015 Future Study.

Andrew volunteers his time regionally as a member of the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Mini-Maker Faire and nationally as a Founding Member of the Board of Directors of the Innovation Collaborative. He also serves as an advisor to the National Art Honor Society and the Smithsonian Institute's National Portrait Gallery
