Current Opportunties

Internship and Career Opportunities at Decker Library

We're seeking people to be part of our team to help us achieve our goals:

  • To become a participatory library, where conversations in physical and digital spaces create knowledge that is beneficial to the MICA community.
  • To practice critical librarianship, where we help our community develop critical thinking skills, provide information literacy instruction, promote being an engaged citizen, and critique power and privilege, including developing antiracist frameworks.
  • To become a beta space that allows for the prototyping of new and iterative ideas.
  • To be in partnership with campus units to better support learning.

Archives & Special Collections

Archives & Special Collections Independent Study (for current MICA students)

Decker Library invites undergraduate and graduate students from any major or program to consider working with our special collections and archives collection for academic credit.

Typically, the student works closely with library staff to gain experience and knowledge of archival practices, including arrangement, description, preservation, and knowledge of systems for documenting collections.

Students can arrange to work for a semester (or summer) as an independent study that is supported by a faculty member in the department for which the student would like credit, and approved by the student's advisor.

The student will complete a research project based on the content of the collection they work with, which can take the form of an interpretive project, paper, in-library exhibition, or online exhibition.

Students are encouraged to connect their library experience to their artwork or focus at MICA, if possible. If you're interested in working with the collection, contact the Special Collections Librarian Kathy Cowan.
