Board of Trustees

Wendy Jachman ’73

Wendy Jachman was elected to the MICA Board of Trustees in 2006 and has served as chair of the Student Affairs Committee since 2007. She also serves on numerous other committees to advance MICA's mission and visioning.

Influenced at an early age by her mother, she was exposed to artful expression and creativity. This inspired and enabled the pursuit of an education and career as an artist. She received a B.F.A. in Fabric Design from Syracuse University, following a Foundation year at MICA. The exposure to a curriculum in fine arts, fabric design and weaving inspired a lifelong career of creating and making purposeful and narrative tapestries for many nonprofit institutions and private art collections. Her tapestries are permanently displayed in health care facilities, educational campuses and places of worship. Jachman has been commissioned to design and install large tapestry art pieces to "warm" the common spaces and deliver a meaningful message in places that include: Edward Myerberg Senior Center; Lifebridge Health; Johns Hopkins Medical Institution; Sheppard Pratt; Johns Hopkins University; Duke University; Gilman School; Bolton Street Synagogue and Har Sinai Congregation.

Working with her father, Jachman served as vice president of City Wide Management Company for 25 years. This prompted other community involvements, as she served on numerous other boards and committees committed to Baltimore. Her board and committee involvement include the Myerberg Senior Center, The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Midtown Development, CHAI, AEMS, Baltimore Center Stage, Gilman School and several advisory committees related to health and research at Johns Hopkins Medical Institution (JHMI).

Family is an important part of her life. She honors the blessed memory of her mother, father, and husband, Howard, in her charitable endeavors including scholarships and dedicated tapestries. Jachman's numerous family scholarships at MICA have rewarded merit scholars and talented entry students. Her tapestry commissions often contain referenced images of her family. She is the proud mother of two sons and four grandchildren and shares her full life with partner Jeffrey Scherr, Esq.
