BALTIMORE —The Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and graduating students at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) are pleased to announce Abbi Jacobson ’06 (General Fine Arts B.F.A.), co-creator of the hit Comedy Central series "Broad City," will be the keynote speaker at the College’s 170th undergraduate Commencement Ceremony at 1 p.m. Monday, May 20 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, 1212 Cathedral St., Baltimore.
In addition to Jacobson, honorary degrees will be presented to performance artist Tehching Hsieh, MICA board member Anne S. Perkins and Howardena Pindell, painter and mixed media artist.
Graduate commencement is scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday, May 20 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, where Cuban installation and performance artist Tania Bruguera will be the keynote speaker. Jane Golden, founder and director of Mural Arts Philadelphia, will also make remarks. Both will also receive honorary degrees.
Degrees are scheduled to be awarded to more than 600 MICA students, including Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degrees in animation, architectural design, art history, theory, and criticism, ceramics, drawing, fiber, film and video, game design, general fine arts, graphic design, humanistic studies, illustration, interactive arts, interdisciplinary sculpture, painting, photography and printmaking; Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees in art education, design leadership, social design, illustration, graphic design and teaching; and Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degrees in community arts, curatorial practice, filmmaking, graphic design, illustration practice, LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting, Mount Royal School of Art, photographic & electronic media, Rinehart School of Sculpture, and studio art; Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.) degrees in the business of art and design, information visualization and UX design; and post-baccalaureate certificate in fine arts.
In addition to honorary degrees, the MICA Medal of Honor will be presented to Jed Dietz, the founding director of the Maryland Film Festival, at the Honorees Dinner on May 19.
