Under Fred Lazarus's visionary leadership, MICA expanded its commitment to the Baltimore community and as a result was able to put art, education and community development at the heart of Baltimore's revitalization efforts.
The Fred Lazarus Leadership for Social Change Award is given to one undergraduate student and one graduate student who, through the power of art and education, were able to engage in meaningful ways with the Baltimore community to raise awareness of public issues and create lasting change. These students exemplify MICA's core values of professionalism, engagement, diversity, excellence, community, communication, fairness, equality, creativity, and respect.
Requirements for eligibility include:
- Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student
- Demonstrated leadership by working with Baltimore community members to impact positive social change through art and education
- Good academic standing (has an academic GPA of 3.0 or higher)
