Desk Assistant (DA)

General Purpose

The desk assistants work at the front desks of Founders Green, Meyerhoff, and Gateway to provide

assistance to the MICA residential community.

Summary of Essential Functions

  • Must work a minimum of two shifts per week. Each shift is 3 hours.
  • Provide customer service through issuing mail and being the first problem solvers in the on campus Residence Life communities
  • Attend all monthly meetings and biannual trainings

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve residents and guests of the residential buildings while maintaining a high regard to customer service  
  • Assist with all front desk needs day to day of the Residence Life Office including logging and sorting packages, problem solving student issues, signing out residential equipment, etc.
  • Temporarily cover front desk guard duties as needed.
  • Create a collaborative environment with students, Residence Life staff and campus partners  
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Customer Service and professionalism principles 
  • Must have prior experience of leadership skills 
  • Ability to be assertive, consistent, good decision-makers and excellent communicators

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must currently be enrolled at MICA at a student and must be in good judicial and academic standing, maintaining a 3.0 GPA throughout the academic year while on staff.
  • Must have prior experience of leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Customer Service Experience
  • Leadership Experience 
  • Attention to details and critical thinking skills

  • Unusual Circumstances related to position varies based on scheduled shifts; permitted to work no more than 20 hours per week. Each desk assistant is responsible for working a minimum of two shifts per week (3 hour shifts). Weekend and after regular business hours work is necessary.  
  • Desk Assistant staff must report to mandatory trainings (August and January) before regular move in and when classes begin. Additional desk coverage may be needed during the break periods (Winter break and Summer break). Front desk operations continue during fall and spring break periods. 
  • Mandatory August training for Desk Assistant staff is August 16 and 17, 2020.
