Head Resident Advisor

General Purpose

The Head Residential Advisor (HRA) shares the responsibility for implementing the basic goals of the Residence Life Department by promoting individual and community development, and serving as a leader among their Residential Advisor (RA) peers.

Summary of Essential Functions

  • The HRA serves as a mentor, resource, experienced leader, and role model for their fellow RAs.
  • Assist RC in preparing and executing residence hall opening and closing (ie, walkthroughs, IRS, and staying 1 day longer for closing).
  • Coordinate duty scheduling and manage the day to day of the duty calendar.
  • Support Residence Life strategic efforts designed to help acclimate students into the residential community through policy education; figuring out engaging ways to help residents comply to policy via marketing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct regular floor meetings
  • Assist in conducting  hall and staff meetings
  • Co-Chair a Department Committee (i.e., major programs, training and  housing sign-up)
  • Collect, organize, and review RA team members’ paperwork, when applicable
  • Set positive examples for residents and RAs in personal, academic and social behaviors
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for RAs
  • Coordinate RA approved programing community calendar 
  • Assist with programing outcomes and assessment 
  • Serve as resource for RAs in community, assisting in the planning of their programming when needed
  • Assist initiative with RC to promote student-faculty interaction through faculty involvement in residence hall programs and activities, or student affairs programs in academic settings.
  • Assist RC in planning other collaborative community related programs and activities, such as pop-up or series events, when applicable
  • Support Residence Life strategic efforts designed to help acclimate students into the residential community through policy education ; figuring out engaging ways to help residents comply to policy via marketing
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Residence Hall Policies 
  • Ability to set a positive example for residents and RAs in abiding by policies

Minimum Qualifications

  • HRA must maintain good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.00. HRA must limit their academic load in the range of 18 credit hours each semester unless approved by the Residential Coordinator. HRA can hold an Undergraduate or Graduate Student status. 
  • HRA must have relevant prior experience, including previous employment in a Residential Department.
  • HRA must maintain good judicial standing. 
  • Must not work in another position on or off campus unless approved by the Residential Coordinator. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as a student at MICA
  • HRA must maintain good judicial standing.
  • Previous employment as a Residential Advisor or equivalent.

  • Unusual Circumstances related to position include on duty requirements and responsibilities, availability prior and post regular move in times before and after the semester begins. 
  • Study Abroad: Advanced notice must be given to the Residential Coordinator if applying to Study Abroad program 2 months prior to the application deadline. Students completing Study Abroad for Fall Semester are not eligible to apply.   
  • Head RA and Residential Advisor move in date is Wednesday, August 12th, 2020. Head Residential Advisors, Residential Advisors and Alternate Residential Advisors must be available from August 12th-August 31st (including weekends) for Training and Hall Opening.  For any concerns and questions please consult with a Residential Coordinator. 
  • Interview Timeline: February 10th- 14th, 2020.

Compensation

Head Residential Advisor will receive a single bedroom room and 75 meal plan which includes 80 dining dollars for each semester of employment.  Additionally, HRAs will receive a $1,000. per semester stipend that will be divided by the number of pay periods in the semester. If an HRA either starts or leaves the position during the semester, your room and board fees will be prorated accordingly. If an HRA resigns or is terminated their meal plan and stipend will be discontinued.
