Orientation Leader (OL)

General Purpose

Orientation Leaders welcome new First Year and Transfer Students to MICA during Fall Orientation, acting and tour guides, campus resources, and representatives of MICA. 

Summary of Essential Functions

  • Welcome new students to MICA’s campus.

  • Act as representative of the Center for Student Engagement and MICA.

  • Create community among the new students.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist during move-in day with registration and helping new students move into Founders Green. 

  • Answer questions from the new students and explain MICA campus resources, policies, and procedures.

  • Perform neighborhood and campus walking tours for new students.

  • Attend evening socials to create sense of community among new students. 

  • Represent MICA professionally and kindly to all new students and campus visitors during Fall Orientation. 

  • Assist the Center for Student Engagement in organizing Orientation materials such as supplies and folders, and the set up and take down of move-in day and campus events during Fall Orientation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of: MICA campus culture, campus resources, ways to get involved on campus, MICA’s academic majors and minors

  • Skills: Professionalism, effective communication, organization, ability to follow a schedule and remain on time.

  • Ability to: Communicate effectively, respond quickly in difficult situations, and keep students engaged in conversations and programs throughout the week.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: At least one semester as an undergraduate student at MICA by Fall 2020. All majors and minors accepted. 

  • No former student leader experience required. 

  • Passion for working with First Year or Transfer Students and welcoming them to the MICA Community.

Preferred Qualifications

No preferred qualifications, all levels of leadership and experience are welcome!

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be available the following dates:

    • Orientation Leader Retreat: Saturday, March 28, 2020 from 1-3pm 

    • Joint Training and Orientation Leader Training Sessions:

      • Orientation Leader Move-In (For OLs that live on campus):Thursday, August 20, 2020

      • OL Kick-Off Dinner: Thursday, August 20, 2020 (from 5-9pm)

      • Joint Student Leader Training: Friday, August 21-22, 2020

      • Orientation Leader Training: August 23-25, 2020

      • New Student Orientation: August 26-30, 2020

Compensation

  • $100 stipend

  • Two t-shirts to be worn as “uniform” during Orientation

  • Meals during training and Orientation provided.

  • Early move-in for those Orientation Leaders who live on campus.

Hiring Timeline

The required group interview will be held Saturday, February 8, 2020 with individual interviews to be scheduled during the week of Monday, February 17- Friday, February 21, 2020.
