Pre-College Teaching Assistant

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

This position reports to the Pre-College Program Coordinator and the Director of Youth Programs in Open Studies. This position assists MICA Faculty in modeling and facilitating a healthy, welcoming and inclusive classroom community. Successful candidates are expected to participate in training one week before students arrive and be available on weekdays and weekends throughout the duration of the program. Meals will be provided when on shift. Housing is provided for students in this position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the successful implementation of the Pre-College academic programming. The variety of tasks associated with this position involve administrative, clerical, physical, organizational and leadership skills
  • Work with Pro Staff and Pre-College Faculty to ensure a safe and positive academic experience for students
  • Model, implement and enforce Pre-College program policies, rules, and regulations
  • Work with the Pre-College Faculty and Pro Staff to facilitate and supervise required studio time for students.
  • Develop, maintain and model healthy interpersonal relationships with all staff, faculty and students.
  • Facilitate and encourage students to develop and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships, personal wellness, and providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Act as an ambassador for the program when appropriate
  • Maintain an open line of communication with students, Pre-College Pro Staff and Pre-College Faculty
  • Provide support, interventions, and referrals when appropriate for individual student needs
  • Attend and provide assistance with supervising students on field trips

Conditions of Employment:

  • Background check, finger printing
  • Available weekdays and weekends
  • Willingness to potentially receive additional training in order to be up to date on classroom safety, procedures and equipment use.

Qualifications:

  • In good conduct and academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Preferred but not limited to rising juniors and seniors
  • Familiarity with campus resources
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality, as well as excellent and mature judgement
  • Consistently be able to implement program policies and regulations while serving as a role model of appropriate behavior
  • Has previous experience with or interest in working with youth

Compensation:

  • $12 per hour (avg 25-40hrs per week, typically days and weekends) 
  • Housing provided (optional)
  • Meals while on shift
