Student Orientation Director

General Purpose

The Student Orientation Director (SOD) is an eight-month commitment student leadership commitment, beginning January 2020, which helps plan Fall Orientation 2020. 

Summary of Essential Functions

The SOD assists the CSE Summer Intern, the Assistant Director of Transitions, and the Orientation Committee in planning and executing Orientation Leader Training and Fall Orientation 2020

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Typical Spring Semester Responsibilities include: 

  • Participate in Spring New and Transfer Student Orientation & Training (January 17-19, 2020) 
  • Attend regular Orientation Committee meetings 
  • Meet weekly with the Assistant Director of Transitions 
  • Recruitment, interviewing, and selection of Orientation Leaders (OL) (February 8 – February 21, 2020)
  • Plan OL training workshops and activities 
  • Attend the NODA Region VIII Conference (March 6-8, 2020) 
  • Interviewing and hiring CSE Summer Intern

Typical Summer Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

  • Attend regular Orientation Committee meetings 
  • Participate in an Orientation Sub-Committee (ex. Wellness, Diversity, Summer Engagement, etc.). 
  • Communicate regularly with OLs throughout the summer 
  • Continue planning OL training workshops and activities 
  • Update all OL information (pairs, sticker preferences, etc.) in database 
  • Coordinate OL training meals 
  • Create a budget for late night events, food during training, and orientation swag 
  • Host Instagram takeovers to connect with First Year Students

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • MICA’s First Year and Orientation Program 
  • Understanding of Google Drive using google forms/sheets/etc
  • Self-starter who can work independently on projects
  • Remain energized and positive throughout the summer for the Orientation Leaders
  • Effectively communicate via social media and email

Minimum Qualifications

  • Complete at least one year at MICA by the end of Spring 2020
  • Experience: Former MICA Orientation Leader experience required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Former MICA Orientation Leader

Conditions of Employment

  • 3 office hours per week during Spring 2020 semester
  • 20 hours per week June 1 – August 14, 2020
  • Attend Joint Student Leader Training and Orientation Leader Training August 19—August 25, 2020
  • Must be available every day of Fall Orientation August 26—August 30, 2020 with flexible on-call hours

Compensation

  • A $500 stipend in Spring semester, $1000 in the summer, and $500 after Orientation.
  • On-campus housing for most of the summer.
  • Meal Swipes when Meyerhoff Dining is open.
  • NODA Conference registration and lodging fully funded.
