Almost everything you need to know in your last semester at MICA!

The Community Art Collaborative (CAC) AmeriCorps Program at MICA:

Hands-on experience at community arts organizations in Baltimore!

The Community Art Collaborative (CAC) is a community arts-focused AmeriCorps program that has been hosted at MICA since 2004.  AmeriCorps is a national service program that engages thousands of people each year in service to their communities in critical areas like education, health, and conservation.  In the CAC program, AmeriCorps members are matched with non-profit community organizations around the city, where they lead art & design programs for K-12 youth in Baltimore. Members also facilitate community arts projects for adults, recruit and manage volunteers, and gain valuable professional experience in the community arts and non-profit fields.  CAC is partnered with the MFA Community Arts program at MICA, but you do not need to be a graduate student to apply and enroll in CAC!  The CAC program could be a great fit for a soon-to-be MICA alum who would like to gain more hands-on experience at community arts organizations in Baltimore.  It could also be a great fit for an artist who is interested in using art as a tool for empowering youth in Baltimore. The position is full-time, for 30-40 hours a week. An annual stipend, free healthcare, and a federal education award are part of the many benefits

If you are interested, please feel free to reach out to Sarah Edelsburg, CAC Program Manager (Sedelsburg@mica.edu) or check out our website: http://www.mica.edu/cac . You can see a list of our current community partners here.  Applications for the 2020-21 Cohort will open on March 23, and will be accepted through May 31. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by May 11.

Studio Move Out Guidelines

Dates & Deadlines

All graduating full-time academic year MFA and MA students must vacate their studio or workspace no later than May 22, 2020, at 5:00 PM. Students who have been issued keys will need to return them to Malvina D'Alterio (mdalterio@mica.edu) no later than May 26th, 2020. There are no exceptions. Please plan accordingly and well in advance of the deadline.

Studio/Workspace Condition Expectations

Upon move-out, all floors should be scraped of debris and swept clean. Remove all nails, screws, and tacks from studio walls. All studio walls must be repainted with the paint provided by Facilities Management. Do not paint unpainted items such electrical outlets, switches, door hinges, etc. Any furnishings provided by MICA must remain in the studio, including retractable extension cords. If not, students will be charged for replacement.

Students must report any damages larger than a deck of cards to Malvina D'Alterio prior to April 15, 2020 in order to make arrangements with Facilities. Damages reported in a timely manner can be addressed by staff and will not result in a fine.

Items Left Behind

In addition to dumpsters provided by Facilities, students may use open-top roll-off containers and trash cans to facilitate cleaning and removal of trash and any unwanted items. Students must remove all trash including building materials, personal items, furniture, artwork, art supplies, etc. from walls, floors, windows, and ceiling of their assigned studio or workspace AND from any common areas, including classrooms, kitchens/lounges, exhibit areas, stairways, hallways, elevators, doorways, and community work areas. "Free" or "Donation" piles are not allowed.

If you have usable wood, please contact Ann Walsh (awalsh01@mica.edu) of the FLIV Woodshop.

Violations

Failure to clean and remove items from your assigned studio/workspace and all common areas (including classrooms, hallways, kitchens/lounges, or other shared spaces) at the time of move-out could result in one or all of the following: withholding of transcripts, diplomas, and/or a charge of $300 to your student account. Excessive damages above and beyond normal wear and tearwill be assessed by Facilities Management on a case-by-case basis. Any and all items left behind in a studio after the published move-out deadline will be removed and discarded as appropriate.

Please take some time to review the Academic Workspace Agreement for additional policies and guidelines.

Notes:
1 - Reasonable wear and tear is generally defined as “unavoidable deterioration in the [workspace] and its fixtures resulting from normal use.” For example, a hole in the wall is not normal wear and tear, however marks on the floor from the door opening and closing are considered normal wear and tear. (Source: U.S. Legal Definitions, uslegal.com/r/reasonable-wear-and-tear/)
