Raél Jero Salley offers over a decade of diverse experiences in art, education, program development, research strategies, collaborative creativity and global impact.
Mónica Amor teaches modern and contemporary art with a focus on expanded mediums, intermedial practices and interdisciplinarity. Her approach is global and highlights the role of institutions and exhibitions in the production of cultural representation.
Paulina Banas’ research investigates 19th-century French art and cross-cultural relationships between Europe and the Islamic world (17th-19th century), including Orientalism.
Jenny Carson’s primary area of study is the art and visual culture of the United States. She regularly teaches courses that explore art production in the context of race and labor, including the History of the World’s Fairs and the Artist’s Studio: Theory and Practice.
Jennie Hirsh holds a Ph.D. in modern and contemporary art from the History of Art Department at Bryn Mawr College, where she also earned an M.A. in the art of the Italian Renaissance.
Jennifer Hock is an architectural historian who specializes in the history of twentieth-century architecture and urbanism. She is especially interested in using architectural history to study the construction of social identities and investigate movements for social, cultural, and political change.
Kerr Houston is an art historian and critic whose scholarship has largely focused on the Italian Renaissance, embodied viewership, and the history of art criticism.
Sonja Kelley specializes in the visual culture of East Asia from antiquity to the present. She teaches classes on the history of Asian art, with a particular focus on China and Japan.
Victoria Rose Pass is a specialist in Visual Culture, particularly in areas of design and fashion. Her research considers the history of fashion culture in the 20th and focuses specifically on issues of gender and race.
Sarah-Neel Smith specializes in the visual culture of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey from the nineteenth century to today; Orientalism and Islamic art in the museum; globalization and contemporary art; and post-9/11 visual culture in the United States
Charley Camp has taught “American Folk Art and Folklife” for more than twenty years.
Liz Faust is an independent curator with a focus on public art, community engagement, and education.
Katharine W. Fernstrom holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology, specializing in Archaeology, from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She specializes in Native American and Pacific Island art, material culture, trade, and communication.
Greg Metcalf teaches modern art and film. His present research is using film theory to better understand the paintings of Mary Cassatt.
David Sterritt is a scholar of American and European film history, theory, and criticism, including intersections of film, literature, and music.
Mary Kinnecome’s area of expertise is twentieth century European and American art with a particular interest in women artists, German Expressionism, and American art from the 1940s to the 1960s.
Kimberly Anderson’s experience in the field of art education and art history spans over two decades, and includes work in museums in both South Carolina and Maryland.
Mark Augustine researches, makes drawings, and teaches about identity, architecture, and urban spaces. His professional interests include content-based ELL instruction, curriculum development, and critical pedagogy.
Megan Weikel received an M.A. in Critical Studies from Maryland Institute College of Art and a B.F.A. from the Corcoran College of Art in Washington, DC. Her education includes undergraduate coursework at Gettysburg College in music performance and the history of the arts.
Barbara Baxter has taught numerous courses at MICA focusing on topics in ancient and medieval art. She has a particular interest in the study of Late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages.
