Nancy Roeder's involvement in the visual arts has been constant. She received her undergraduate degree in drawing and followed with an MFA in painting, which quickly led her to explore materials that facilitated the evolution into more three-dimensional work, site specific installations, and light projections.
At about the same time, and quite by accident, she got hooked on teaching. Her first full time teaching job was at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Nancy came to MICA in 1984 and chaired the foundation department for several years. She has delivered papers about the "possibilities of first year curriculums" and "the art of the critique" at national educational conferences. She presently teaches in the general fine arts department where she is able to Share her interests in a variety of media with her students. Past exhibitions have dealt with topics as diverse as the notion of "Mark making" and "Catholic Girls". Despite the sometimes ephemeral nature of her work, Nancy is represented in private collections across the country.
