Firmin DeBrabander has taught Philosophy at the Maryland Institute College of Art since 2005.

He received his PhD from Emory University in 2002, and specializes in Political Philosophy. Dr. DeBrabander also teaches courses in Ancient Greek and Roman Philosophy, Aesthetics, Moral Philosophy, Environmental Ethics and Economic Theory. He has written two books: Spinoza and the Stoics (Continuum Press, 2007) and Do Guns Make us Free? (Yale University Press, 2015). He is currently at work on a manuscript on privacy.

Dr. DeBrabander has written pieces in social and political commentary for a variety of publications, including the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, Baltimore Sun, Salon, The Atlantic and The New Republic. He organizes MICA's annual Constitution Day symposium, which has included an illustrious collection of speakers, including John Waters, Helen Thomas, Angela Davis, Jesse Jackson, Amy Goodman, Andrew Sullivan, Cornel West, EJ Dionne, Daniel Ellsberg, and Joy Ann Reid.
