MICA Undergraduate students are welcome to minor in Creative Writing. The minor entails:
- completing at least three writing workshops
- completing three additional courses in the Humanistic Studies department.
Working closely with an advisor, minors also complete a senior thesis. Past student creative writing theses have included full-length novels, short stories, poetry chapbooks and original plays.
Every year the Humanistic Studies department hosts readings by visiting authors. Past readers have included Galway Kinnell, Gary Shteyngart, Lia Purpura, Ishmael Reed, and Andrei Codrescu. MICA students also have opportunities to participate in readings on and off campus throughout the academic year. In recent years, MICA students have taken literary internships at Baltimore non-profits and magazines, and have won fellowships for writing residencies.
