Painting (Major)

Paul Rouphail

Paul Rouphail is a painter who fuses architectural history, American vernacular and turns of phrase. His paintings examine slippages in textual translation where particular colloquialisms merge with everyday environments. He earned his M.F.A. in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, and his B.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University.

His works have been exhibited at Nancy Margolis Gallery in New York, Microscope Gallery in Brooklyn, The Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University and The Chautauqua Institution, among others. Rouphail's work has been reviewed online and in print, including in New American Paintings (Issue 122), The Chautauqua Daily (Howard Halle) and Gestalten Press' anthology, Imagine Architectur (Lukas Feireiss and Robert Klanten). In 2016, he was awarded the AICAD Teaching Fellowship at MICA.
