Colette Veasey-Cullors

Colette Veasey-Cullors' photographic work throughout her career has continually investigated themes pertaining to socio-economics, race, class, education, and identity.

She seeks to question our personal connections to these subjects and how one might justify and rationalize their existence to themselves and others. She is interested in decoding these issues by employing the use of metaphor and investigating the point of intersection between these dichotomies.

Colette is Associate Dean of Design & Media, as well as professor of photography at MICA. Before joining MICA's faculty in 2008, she was a tenured associate professor in the undergraduate program in photography at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Colette received her MFA in photography from Maryland Institute College of Art in 1996 and her BFA in photography from the University of Houston in 1992.

During the summer of 2014, Colette was hired as a consultant at Central University of Technology (CUT) in Bloemfontein, South Africa. During her time at CUT, Colette advised and helped to develop the Department of Design and Studio Art's new curriculum for their advanced and postgraduate diploma's, as well as the development of three new masters degrees. This new structure will follow the recently implemented new undergraduate qualification, a Diploma in Design and Studio Art, which is South Africa's first undergraduate interdisciplinary qualification. In addition to curriculum development, Colette administered classroom development workshops for students and faculty.
