Student Development Specialist

Louise Cracknell, Ed.M

The Student Development Specialist (SDS) is part of the MICA Health and Wellness team alongside Student Health Services, Student Counseling Center, MICA Fitness, and Health Promotion..

In her role as the SDS, Louise works directly with students to help them work through concerns that are impacting their academic success, well-being, and enjoyment of their time at MICA. These can range from struggles with mental and medical health  to financial and family issues. By utilizing a combination of one-on-one meetings and collaboration with campus partners, Louise supports students based on their individual needs and concerns.

It is to the benefit of students to speak with Louise early in the semester if they are experiencing ongoing concerns, or as soon as possible after a concern arises. Even if they are not sure whether or not the Student Development Specialist can help, students are welcome to reach out for guidance. Early intervention and support can often provide students with more options than waiting for a situation to resolve on its own or until a crisis situation develops.

Louise came to MICA in July 2018 after completing her Ed.M in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies: Higher Education Administration at Boston University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Purdue University in Acting and English Literature. In her free time, Louise loves traveling, trying new foods, coaching rugby at Towson University, and having adventures with her husband and their dog Sophie.
